Our tour of the lower 48 State Capitols of a 50-week journey is now drawing to an end with our last week’s visit of Hartford. As it has been the case everywhere else, we've discovered an interesting State and learned a great deal on its history, politics and its electoral system. Hartford’s State House which is the most ornate of the country, Mark Twain and Harriet Beecher Stowe’s country of adoption, the sophistication of new Haven and its historic Yale University, and the littoral where we strolled on the decks at the reproduced town of Mystic, all contributed to make our stay memorable. Furthermore, the warm welcome and the gorgeous weather we witnessed ended our adventure on a very positive note.
Only a few days to go and the Presidential campaign will be over with. It has been an exciting year on both political and economic fronts. We feel privileged to have been able to witness what is likely to be a historical event as we went from one State to the next over the last 12 months. Whatever the results might be and despite all the problems the country is confronted with, we’re convinced that a new government will do a lot to allow the country to rebound and reposition itself as the leader of the free world. We can't share all the thoughts and observations we gathered along the way in the context of this blog but, hopefully, we might have this opportunity in the near future.
We will return home after Election Day. In the meantime, we hope to be able to witness, somewhere in Washington DC, the very moment when the winner will be announced and share the enthusiasm of this historic moment, as either an African-American or a woman will be elected to the highest office of the United States of America for the first time.
Although the past seven or eight weeks have proven to be a good test as far as completing the blog is concerned, the whole adventure has been tremendous and we’ve enjoyed every moment of it, especially so since our motor home and technical equipment have held to our expectations. Fatigue has certainly settled in over time but we know we can count on long winter months to get a good dose of rest and to dream up new projects.
For those who have been with us since the beginning of our journey and those we met on the way, we want you to know that you’ve contributed to enhance our experience and we appreciate your great support, your comments and your encouragements.
Our warmest thanks to Jim White and Sarah Mitchell for a memorable day at the Hartford State House.
We intend to issue a final installment of our blog prior to going back home to put an end to our overwhelming adventure.
Until then, enjoy the Election Night Returns.
Best regards,
Suzette and Gilles Samson
