In as much as Rhode Island has a high population density, being the smallest State of the Union, it also has a high density of historic sites, old homes and tourist attractions that we had a tremendous pleasure to discover. From its 19th-century town of Watch Hill to Newport, we were amazed by its beautiful beaches, Victorian resort towns and fishing villages along the littoral. Newport was a delight with its lavish mansions, million-dollar yachts, stunning sea vistas and colonial buildings. Providence was also an important and very pleasant part of our stay.
With a gallery of 143 photos, we hope that it will give you a good appreciation of what this small State has to offer and why we felt in love with its littoral, Newport and Providence enhanced, at this time of the year, by the rich range of autumn hues.
The Presidential campaign is coming to an end and according to the news both on TV and more so on the radio, newspapers, pundits and some of the polls, the game won’t be over until it’s over. One can't make head or tail of all the information, TV spots, TV and radio shows, and infomercials dedicated to present their sides of the story. It make us wonder what goes through the mind of voters privately confronted with their ballot bulletin... emotion, confidence, trust, objectivity, partisanship, intuition, understanding of issues, values, culture, hope, conservatism, advertisement or civic duty... ? We might have an answer after Election Day following studies of the results. In the end though, it's is virtually certain that voter's decision is a matter of heart more than anything else!
We would like to take this opportunity to thank the State Librarian, Tom Evans for three photos of the interior dome that are included in our album and John J. Flynn, Legal Counsel to the President of the Senate, for answering our questions. Many thanks also to Peggy, at Gilbert Stuart Birthplace and Museum, for clarifying the confusion surrounding George Washington different portraits.
Our last update covering the State of Connecticut will be posted from Washington D.C. where we’ll be on Election Day, November 4th and beyond.
We’ll be back soon!
